Siwy Denim - the brand of the moment

siwy jeans

Launched in Spring 2005, Siwy Denim has made the journey from Downtown New York to the height of LA’s hottest celebs. A favourite of Kate Moss (which in itself guarantees immediate credibility), Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Bilson and Hilary Duff, these are THE denims of the moment.

From the Siwy Website: ” Every pair of Siwy denim is adorned with a hand-crafted label made out of vintage feedsacks. Between the 1880’s through the 1940’s the bags, as much as the goods they contained, became wildly advertised items. Although there is no definition for the term ‘feedsack’ it was an integral part of rural American life. Historically, the bags have unique patterns
on them that utilize an array of colors, made from cotton or burlap woven together. Before it was ever fashionable, the sacks were recycled into garments and quilts. Siwy utilizes this same idea to create a unique labeling system that can ensure the owner that they are not only getting a piece of American history but a unique label that the owner can really feel is special because of the limited run of labels per print.”

L.A dumps denim for Fleece

fleece jeans - fleece skinny jeans solow

Los Angeles is the undisputed capital of dressed down street style, and in a kind of ‘bridge fashion’ between Denim Jeans and Sweats, the Fleece Jean is popping up in stores all over L.A. “Combining the softest possible fleece material with denim styling that is relaxed, well-made and good about holding its shape, this new design is showing up everywhere you would normally see jeans — which, in L.A., is everywhere.”

“I’m a huge fan of skinny jeans, but at times they can be a little uncomfortable,” explained the designer Sarah Siegel-Magness, founder of So Low, an L.A. company known for its ultra-comfortable hoodies, sweats and tees. “I wanted to take the jean idea and translate it into something more comfortable and easy, something you can wear to the gym or out at night.”

“”They are sweat pants with the comfort of sweat pants, but they look like jeans,” Fixel explained. “And they are very slenderizing. The black sweat pant material on either side of the denim gives you an ultra-slim look.”

While this is a Denim Blog, we are certainly not beyond loving these Fleece Jeans - Lana has been rocking them for a while now. Check them out here.

Liz Hurley for Jordache - Spring/Summer 2007

Liz Hurley for Jordache - Spring/Summer 2007

Liz Hurley is due to be married next month at the Devi Garh. (We have such excellent memories of that Hotel having attending the wedding of some friends there in Udaipur, India last year). She’s certainly making an effort to look fabulous, as can be seen from these pics from last night - promoting Jordache’s Spring/Summer 2007 line at Macy’s.

Lee Jeans Street Campaign (Paris)

Lee Jeans Street Campaign (Paris)
“Those old advertising and marketing folks must get jealous when they see great ideas, like this Lee jeans promo which hit the streets. Created by French agency, Tribeca, the guerrilla campaign was staged on the streets of Paris, featuring real product suspended from rope tied to buildings, so people walked underneath a clothes line of jeans as if passing underneath a bridge. Other elements included jeans hung on street poles. Lee may not have the most cutting edge product in the world but it certainly knows how to pull off a cutting edge campaign.”

Meanwhile, we Hate the frumpy denim here, but we LOVE that Martini Glass! The carriers expression seems to indicate that glass might have been quite full before she took that stroll down the runway…

Rock & Republic Rocks Cipriani

Rock & Republic Spring 2007 Rock & Republic Spring 2007

“Outside Cipriani on East 42nd Street on Saturday, September 9th, the red carpet was laid out, the crowd pulsated with people trying to get in, and the door policy was as strict as ever. Inside, an “iced-out” theme with white carpeting, a gleaming white catwalk, crystal clear chairs and sheets of individual blue lights cascading down the walls set the atmosphere for what was arguably the biggest production of the week, the Rock & Republic Spring 2007 collection.

The “rock” was in full effect - from the Rolling Stones to Led Zeppelin to Duran Duran, the music alone (well, the open bar helped) kept everyone entertained. When models including May Anderson and Karolina Kurkova hit the runway, however, the entertainment level reached new heights.

Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra opened the show’s 55 looks with a denim blazer and short shorts that captured the essence of the spring collection - sexy and skinny. There was a fair amount of denim-free fashions, including tailored trench coats, sleek silk halter dresses, and cotton tees and blouses dressed up with fitted pinstripe blazers, but the show was devoted to the way Rock & Republic does denim. The skinny silhouette showed its face in nearly every wash of jean, from cream colored to a metallic finish for both men and women. Even the ladies’ pencil skirts and simple button down tops for guys seemed extra snug on the body.

More pics after the jump.

Baby Phat Fashion Week Spring 2007

Baby Phat Denim

“A certain amount of extra-deluxe over-the-topness is requisite in any hip-hop fashion brand worth its salt, and few womenswear brands do it as large and as loud and as spicy as Baby Phat. Kimora Lee Simmons and her design crew served up plenty for spring that’s sure to please her young customers and the fellows who are certain to notice them in rolled-up denim shorts, tailored cropped-pant suits and asymmetrical gowns in mercilessly clingy fabrics.

Toss in super-high heels and suitcase-size, hardware-laden handbags and you get the streetwise picture: edgy looks sprinkled with ravishing shades of red that will be worn by urban divas from size 2 to 20.”

We’re particularly liking the Denim Duffel and Pinafore shown here. Look for them in stores soon.

McQueen Rocks

When Alexander McQueen decided to launch a diffusion line, he didn’t just churn out a watered-down version of his main collection, or a range of logo tops and denim. Instead, he came up with McQ, a brand new label for men and women that blends a street-tough British aesthetic (studded biker jackets, zip-through denim dresses, lace-sided pencil skirts) with more whimsical pieces (chunky hand-knits and swirling capes).

MCQ is now starting to appear on shelves at Intermix and Bergdorfs. We’re loving the Denim Dress (shown below):
